People Helping People: International Credit Union Day 2015
International Credit Union (ICU) Day® has been celebrated on the third Thursday of October since 1948. Next week we will recognize the day by reflecting upon the credit union movement's history and to promote its achievements. It is a day to honor those who have dedicated their lives to the movement, recognize the hard work of those working in the credit union industry and show members our appreciation.
As this year’s celebration approaches, we want to take a moment to thank all credit unions for your dedication and collective spirit of helping people. You transform member’s lives with loans for homes, education and business start-ups.
One of the vintage mascots for ICU day showcased credit unions as your umbrella for financial storms. This message is as relevant today as it was back then. Some 25 to 30 years ago, baby boomers were looking for help to get established and they turned to credit unions. And now, the industry is seeing the same appeal from millennials.
Credit union growth can be attributed to so many factors but the bottom line of staying true to core values of helping people one member at a time has stood the test of time. As CUTimes reports, it’s no secret that increased competition has led to product development and innovation that has benefited the industry and consumers. The range of payments and service options available, along with keeping pace with technology for mobile banking, paperless operations and credit cards is maintaining a strong reputation for CUs.
We look forward to continuing to work with all the great CUs out there. As we stay ahead of technology and focus on core system efficiency that will give you operational direction and success, we all can support the viability of CUs for decades - make that centuries, to come.
